THE WOODLAND TRUST COMPETITION
PROJECT TYPE: CULTURAL
Our vision for the woodland trust competition was to create a stunning self-sustaining visitor centre that celebrates its rural wooded surroundings and maximises human wellbeing through Biophilic design principles.
Biophilia literally means love of nature and as a concept suggests that humans hold a biological need for connection with nature on a physical, mental and social level. This area of design is getting a great deal of focus at the moment as the data shows that when we are surrounded by nature, natural references and materials, we can radically increase our working productivity in the work place, learning comprehension rates in education and ever our recovery rates in the health sector. We wanted our visitors to leave more refreshed and energised then when they arrived so that they return time and again for a recuperative and educational experience.
